Buddha is widely acknowledged as the founder of Buddhism which started around 500BC and was to expand quickly from that time on. Very few historically proven facts are known about Buddha himself as the story of his life and teachings have been passed down by word of mouth since that day by Buddhist monks.



WHAT IS KNOWN HISTORICALLY ABOUT BUDDHA?


It was early estimates place the birth of Buddha around 625BC. Recently however historians have reviewed this estimation, and suggested that a closer guess is around 480BC. His birth place is located just inside the bouder of modern Nepal, in a area called Kapilavastu. Here his father was the King or at least a highly ranked aristocratic family with both wealth and power.

This remains the only information which can be historically proven about Buddha. The Story of Buddha however does provide a detailed acount of his life, passed down thousands of generations to reach us in the preasent day.
